In the first ballot, Margaret Thatcher recieved 49.1% of the vote with 130. Edward Heath recieved 44.9% of the vote with 119. Hugh Fraser recieved 6% of the vote with 16. Heath resigned but another ballot was needed. Thatcher recieved 53.3% of the vote and was declared the winner, becoming the first female leader of the Conservative Party.
